I would like to respond to Sid Schwab’s Dec. 4 column, “Look at facts of immigration might surprise”: Never, since the death of Bertrand Russell, have I encountered an author who sends me rushing to the dictionary to unlock the nuances of expression contained in the writings of Sid Schwab.
His entire treatise on the subject of immigration reminds me of the most important quality I strove to instill in my children from the moment they began to talk and then read and to be subjected to attitudes both good and bad from friends, relatives and other sources, to wit: Always evaluate everything you hear or read, from whatever source, using your gift of intelligence and my assurance that just because you heard it from Grandpa or saw it in your Weekly Reader doesn’t make it so. Think! Research! Evaluate! Discuss! Challenge!
Keep it coming, doctor. I can’t decide if it’s your incisive remarks or the charm and humor with which you deliver them that I like best.
