Existing bans aren’t enforced

I agree with County Councilman Mike Cooper about banning fireworks. Perhaps I might leave the house on the Fourth without apprehension about the roof or deck being set afire.

In past summers I’ve found bottle rocket remains on the deck and roof. Plus, the noise and smoke are quite irritating.

The Herald’s article of May 15 states, “Snohomish County already prohibits owning or discharging firecrackers, bottle rockets and skyrockets. Cooper’s proposed ban would impose a misdemeanor charge and a fine of up to $1,000 for people who break the law. It would not affect professional fireworks displays by licensed pyrotechnicians.”

I must say that this existing prohibition is not being enforced because I witness fireworks every year and I live in the unincorporated part of the county. The fireworks stands in these parts still do a brisk business.

If folks want to see explosions, then go the stadium or other public display. If that’s not sufficient, then join the military!
