I’m not sure it will ever be possible for us or even future historians to calculate the true amount of damage inflicted both on the nation and the world as a result of Donald Trump. To say that our nation’s moral, ethical and intellectual fabric been damaged by Trump’s incessant and unyielding drumbeat of ever greater lies is an understatement. His contributing and hands-on role to our nation’s racial polarization and the exponential and frightening growth of white nationalism has yet to be fully realized or felt.
Perhaps however the one issue that may reserve the Donald special canonization in the ninth circle of hell is his total and wavering contempt of both science and the growing realities of climate destruction. We are currently in the midst of the “sixth great extinction.” Eighty species are going extinct every day. The Amazon rain forest is literally burning as I write.
If immediate action is not taken human civilization as we know it will collapse, ushering in an age of chaos, destruction, collapse and death that is unimaginable. This is exactly the future that Trump is promoting.
I fully understand and realize that Trump has induced levels of outrage fatigue on a concerned and in many cases terrified citizenry that is unrivaled. However, we have to redouble our efforts to thwart, challenge, rebuke and protest the actions and unwaveringly flood of lies levied by the individual who is without reservation or exaggeration both the worst and the most dangerous president in the U.S. history. Facts matter, science matters, the truth matters, which is why we cannot give up.
