One thing that Americans are burdened with every year is the dreaded federal income tax and the filing of their 1040 tax forms. The current tax system has become a heavy burden for all Americans.
Every day there are fewer U.S. goods manufactured in this country in favor of foreign goods. One major culprit is the current federal tax code and the abusive, punishing, anti-business policies of the Internal Revenue Service. Our manufacturing industries are stifled because of tax bureaucracy, regulation and governmental red tape. Because of this, working families suffer from higher consumer prices and, in many cases, lost jobs.
If we replaced the income tax with the FairTax, a highly progressive federal consumption tax, our nation’s products would be an estimated 20 percent to 30 percent more competitive here as well as overseas. Our nation’s manufacturers would increase productivity and our work force would finally see a day where they could, under the FairTax, keep their entire paycheck and never again have to keep tax records, file IRS tax forms or face audits and harassment from the IRS.
There is a bill in Congress that is gaining momentum to put a new and far more improved tax system in place. It is House Resolution 25, and it currently has 55 co-sponsors (none from Washington). Our tax system is broken and needs to be changed. We need to pass the FairTax into law. Readers who wish to learn more on this issue may visit the FairTax Web site at www.fairtax.org.
