Family-oriented fun deserves site

Recent letters condemning Gary Strode’s motocross track development effort are grossly out of place and a sad revelation of never-ending selfishness which seems to come out of the anti-motorized folks.

Washington has millions of acres of wilderness parks, and conservation areas, all of which are off-limits to any form of motorized recreation. Snohomish County has no off-road motocross or motorized recreation areas and as a result many people have to leave the county and burn lots of gasoline to pursue their chosen forms of off-road recreation.

The mandatory silencers used on all of today’s production motocross bikes tone down the sound level considerably, and I’m confident Mr. Strode’s development will enforce sound levels for all track users. In addition, the planned development has a thick buffer of trees surrounding the track and no neighbors close by, as is claimed in a recent negative article.

We need to reclaim our right to family-based motocross and value systems, which come to our young people through strong physical and mental competitive activities. We’re not all interested in simply being hikers.
