I am one of the many women who has received help from Planned Parenthood over the years. I never had to have an abortion, “Thank God,” because I was always able to receive contraceptive and health advice from the ladies at Planned Parenthood, even when I couldn’t afford it.
I believe that if we as parents taught our children about birth control (Sarah Palin can tell us how well abstinence works!) there would be fewer abortions and if we encouraged the teaching of sexual health earlier in school, including contraception/birth control, there would be fewer unplanned pregnancies.
Abortion should be the last option, the least used option in our contraceptive arsenal.
An article on the Internet stated that Planned Parenthood Federation of America did 305,310 abortions in 2007, up from 165,174 in 1997. What caused such an increase? My guess is that you can’t find a doctor at any clinic, in Everett at least, that is allowed to do abortions, so PP is your only option! Do we really want to send these women into the back alleys of yesterday? I think not! It seems ironic to me that the letters to the editor condemning PP have all been from men.
