In the overall scheme of things, particularly in the midst of the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the story of a lost squirrel may seem like peanuts. But judging from the many calls that we received from people offering their help and concern during Stumpy’s absence, it was a story that for varying reasons, touched many.
The kindness was overwhelming and we wish to thank all who called with their support. We especially want to thank Todd Frankel and The Herald for getting Stumpy’s story out there so that when Jana and Allen Henley heard his little bell, they were able to catch him and return him to us safely. A huge thanks to the Henleys!
As a result of Stumpy’s celebrity, we are privileged to be raising three orphaned squirrels and look forward to the time when we can release them into the protected and natural environment of our acreage.
Finally, Stumpy wants to remind people to add bird and squirrel feeders to their yards and keep them clean and well-stocked as fall and winter approach.
