Well, the season for the Everett Silvertips has come to an end, but what a great season it was for Everett and our family. When the players arrived last year, they were assigned what’s called a “billet’s family” and they stay with them for the whole season. My stepdaughter, Barbra Keil, her husband Brian and my two grandkids, Brandon and Kayla, were lucky enough to have Karel Hromas, No. 17, live with them.
Now, we have to admit that no one knew what to expect with Karel being from the Czech Republic and not being able to speak much English, but with the help of an interpreter Barbra and the family got to know him.
It has been an interesting year with Karel. Watching how he and the family bonded would bring a glow to the coldest heart. We will have lasting memories of the family affairs that he was able to join given the playing schedule that he had.
We must now say goodbye to this fine young man and we do it with a heavy heart as he will be going back to his own family in the Czech Republic. But there is a chance he will be back next year. And if he does come back he knows he will be greeted with open arms, smiles and hugs! Thank you, Karel, for being part of the family. We’ll miss you.
