Associated Press writer Josh Dubow wrote a thought-provoking commentary about the firing of University of Nebraska football coach Frank Solich (Sports, Dec. 1). His article left this reader determined to encourage university alumni and advocates to correct a blatant wrong. To accomplish that, we must take action stronger than collectively shaking our heads.
First, more of us need to communicate with the schools we support so that an influential few aren’t making decisions for us. Then, we need to make sure that our correspondence, phone calls and checks reflect the message we want schools of higher learning to send – and our youth to receive. I have to believe that when that happens, students will know that we really do value good programs and honorable conduct over titles.
