Faux Sonics better than no Sonics

I just read Scott Johnson’s article about the Oklahoma City Thunder (Wednesday, “Thunder success bittersweet for onetime Sonics fans”). It is sad that people are against the Thunder because Clay Bennett took the Sonics from Seattle and put the team in Oklahoma City.

I was a season ticket holder during the real glory years of the Sonics … not the Gary and Shawn years (I’m not knocking those teams) but the Freddie, DJ, Gus, Jack and JJ years. This franchise is still my team. The Dodgers still belong to many people in Brooklyn. If you need someone to hold a grudge against, try Howard (StarBux) Schultz. He sold the team without ever looking for local ownership. The instant I saw Mr. Bennett was from Oklahoma City, I knew the team was gone. And he had every right to relocate it.

Every time I hear of a Starbucks closing, I grin with happiness as I have never purchased Starbucks since the sale of the Sonics. I hope the NBA will return to Seattle and then I will no longer root for Oklahoma City. Until then … Go (faux Sonics) Thunder!
