Fear not, Snohomish’s GroundFrog Day is not on its last frog legs

I am very disappointed to read that Snohomish is ending its annual GroundFrog Day celebration. In Buffalo,N.Y., we celebrate it in conjunction with Groundhog Day, Feb. 2. We have candy, gifts, and a plastic frog that chirps as it greets people. We also offer the opportunity to kiss the plastic frog to see if it becomes a real or plastic prince.

Like your city, the winters can wear us down. The Buffalo Bills season ended prematurely. The Buffalo Sabres are our only other entertainment. Please, in the name of Kermit the Frog keep your ground frog festival happening for years to come.

Editor’s note: Don’t jump to conclusions, fellow frog-ophile. As The Herald reported Jan. 29, Snohomish’s annual GroundFrog Day is still alive and kicking and is celebrated on the last Saturday of January. Snohomish Slew frognosticated six more weeks of winter, by the way. The celebration’s organization, however, is hopping from the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce to the organizers of Kla Ha Ya Days.
