The Legislature is in session and the $5 billion deficit casts a heavy shadow over the proceedings.
We can attribute $2 billion of that deficit to accepting one-time federal stimulus dollars. Accepting that money has shown what happens when you get in bed with the federal government, they give you funds for a short period of time and you create programs but the money goes away and we are left with paying for the program.
The money from the federal government is enticing but it corrupts our state spending and contributes to our current deficit. Good job to the governor and the Legislature for getting us into worse financial problems and providing such wonderful leadership.
