Regarding Jerry Cornfield’s Saturday article, “Waste alleged in ferry system”:
The article points to the potential of abuses and concerns of the ferry system to the amount of $6.4 million in reimbursements to ferry workers traveling to their job. In this economy most workers in this state are more than happy just to be able to drive to their place of employment, let alone get paid to do it.
I do understand the concept of travel time between place of employment and travel to job site. However, $73,000 for reimbursement for one deckhand is ridiculous, not to say that 25 workers over $30,000 isn’t also.
Two points:
1) Is this just the tip of the iceberg that those who voterd for I-960 intended to help uncover on waste in state government?
2) Maybe we will never know.
Thanks to our local legislative representatives, Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, Sen. Jean Berkey, Rep. John McCoy, Rep. Mike Sells and Rep. Hans Dunshee for voting to suspend I-960 in their infinite wisdom of knowing better than the voters of the state of Washington.
