The Feb. 10 letter, “Require license to raise a child,” asks: “How does a woman, fresh out of divorce court, recently bankrupt, with no job, staying with her parents, expect to raise 14 children, all under the age of 8?” I fear the writer has jumped on the wrong horse here.
A license is required to become a physician. It was a physician who implanted Nadya Suleman with fertilized eggs while she was not self-sufficient. Exactly who is at fault here? Think about it.
As far as requiring licenses to be parents, think about this: If a license after 12 years of study did not provide any common sense to that doctor, what makes you think a course in parenting will help with raising children with all the variables involved like personalities, human interactions, certain conditions like ADD, dyslexia, and thousands of other life surprises? It will not.
The only way to help raise children is for society to pitch in and help one another with this very important, but difficult, job.
