I can’t avoid the irony of the latest terrorist threat. I see Bin Laden sitting in a cave somewhere watching a James Bond movie on his satellite receiver. He sees Bond in a hopeless situation at the mercy of “the bad guys.” Bond uses a tube of “toothpaste,” a cigarette lighter and his Rolex watch to assemble a demolitions device that frees him and saves the Western world from the axis of evil.
What we took as tongue-in-cheek fiction somebody turned into sobering reality. Even more ironic is that the British discovered it.
