The letter, “Election won’t make a difference” is sadly, right on track. Just recall the April 1 front page article on HB 1707, “Tax break would create state aerospace jobs, supporters say.” At first I thought it might be an April Fool’s joke. I interpret this thinking by our representatives to be “As long as you have enough money, we will change the laws to accommodate your (illegal) activity.” There is an old saying, “two wrongs don’t make a right.” Whether it brings new jobs to Everett or not, I think it’s applicable here. Also something about a slippery slope … oops — too late!
In regard to the presidential plea to the residents of Moore, Okla., and in the entire country, in light of the tornado that caused such massive destruction — no, Mr. President, there is no hope any more. Victims from the recent Boston Marathon bombing are turning to crowdfunding on the Internet. How about the way our country “honors” our vets — so well their suicide rate outpaces all other groups! We don’t take care of our own, but throw massive amounts of money to help other countries. What Mr. President, is there to be realistically, hopeful about?
What might provide some hope and positive impact, rather than massive (scare) advertising that is in over-preponderance on the radio and TV with cancer detection and treatment by all the major health care providers (must be an oxymoron since they only profit from illness?) I suggest it might be helpful to have radio and TV commercials (Herald you could include a tip each day with “The Buzz” — right on the front page) that encourages and/or provide tips on exercise, better eating habits, and compassion towards others. Everyone will benefit from positive, upbeat thinking and reminders, especially when the reality is, so truly bleak.
My family has survived losses from Enron, WaMu, the housing collapse, theft of HSA funds, a 2008 Bank of America mortgage, and medical malpractice — it hasn’t been fun or pretty. I haven’t seen anyone but those already fairly financially stable, rebound to any serious extent from the shenanigans of the past decade or so, and frankly, I think it’s going to get a lot worse for most boomers and the rest of the 99 percent. Hopeful? Not so much. Enjoy those bedroom suites, theaters, showers and conference rooms on your private jets! The law’s on your side, and if it’s not, we can change it.
