After reading Tuesday’s page one article, “Landscaping firm fined $199K in young man’s death,” it set me to wondering: Where will the money from the fine go? Will it go to the victim’s family? To the county general fund? Can someone provide an answer to this?
Also, how many violations must a company be allowed to commit before its business license is revoked? (Pacific Topsoils has 16!)
We have many workplace safety laws in place to protect workers, yet so many companies knowingly violate them, to save time and money. Paying a fine is the easy way out. Going out of business, or better yet, going to jail would be quite an incentive to comply with the rules.
