This letter is in reference to the Feb. 3 Herald article, “Foothill forests get new shield.” Aaron Reardon, new Snohomish County executive, has signed a pact to prohibit development on private and state lands in the foothills of Snohomish County. This was done to protect this land for the future sons and daughters of Snohomish County. I called a county councilman and was informed he had no prior knowledge of this pact.
This action, spearheaded by radical left wing organizations, is designed to gain total control of all public and private lands. Land would be designated open space. Currently no activity of any sort, including logging, is allowed on open space land. These same type groups are supporting legislation in Olympia that would designate all trees older than 80 years as old growth and thus protected from logging. There is also a bill that would not allow logging on trees that are less than 80 years old.
Benefits for the future sons and daughters of Snohomish County would be:
1. Degrading their education by elimination of much needed logging dollars for the schools.
2. Elimination of rural lands from development, thus forcing them into high-rise apartment projects in the inner city.
3. Eliminating jobs that are in short supply because of other legislation sponsored by this type of group.
This is one of many examples of social engineering, through legislation and policy, that will enslave our future sons and daughters within the tight confines of mandated growth boundaries. Living in the poor, crime-ridden complexes, waiting for the Sounder Train to take them to their menial government jobs, is the existence planned for future generations
