Wall Street may be collapsing but Broadway’s booming!
I drove past the old Kathy’s Klippers this morning and asked a workman what store was taking its place. He shouted “Pawn Exchange.” A Pawn Exchange! Great! That’s just great! Now we’ll have a pawn shop across from an adult book store! What happened to the plans to clean up Broadway? We got rid of the Topper so we can have … what? Pawn shops? Are massage parlors next?
Yes, of course, it’s a free society but where are our zoning restrictions? Maybe we should think about improving our existing problem areas before we spend so much energy and money on a new riverfront development. If someone would have asked me if we should clean up Broadway or initiate a new riverfront development I for one would have chosen to clean up Broadway first. I challenge the City to put Broadway on the front burner. Surely it’s been neglected far too long.
