Flabbergasted at cost of Getchell

$95.6 million? The cost of the new Marysville Getchell High School? I had to read that several times. Was it a misprint? Apparently not! (Aug. 28 article, “Marysville’s new school getting ready for its first day.”)

I am flabbergasted by the cost of this new school! Oh, yes, it appears to be beautiful, state of the art, etc. But, in today’s economy what were “they” thinking? That my tax dollars were easy come, easy go, theirs to spend on frills and fluff? I’m a senior, on a fixed income, who got a fine education in schools that looked like boxes. They were safe, clean and warm, and taught me well.

Isn’t that what is most important — a good education? When will our school leaders get that? It’s what goes on inside the classroom that counts. Now, ask me how I’ll vote on the next school bond issue.
