Flights from Paine Field will trash air, property values

On behalf of the vast majority of the 20,000-plus citizens of Mukilteo, I would like say thanks, but no thanks to our former County Council Chairman Dave Somers (and current county executive), and those County Council members who supported Paine Field expansion over the past couple of decades. It is your short-sightedness and serious disregard for our community that is responsible for the impending trashing of our air, quality of life and property values.

We need a new environmental assessment since the scheduled flight plans announced today already exceed the number of flights per day stated in the first “supposedly impartial” assessment. That should be addressed by the courts, but don’t hold your breath. The “David and Goliath” scenario is not likely to play out here.

Instead of spending large sums of money to fight Paine Field expansion in court, we should have “chipped in” and bought homes in Mukilteo for each of the offending council members. Maybe then they would have looked past their “business-comes-first” vision and protected their investment, health and quality of life as citizens of this community and voted for Mukilteo, not against it. Oh, if only I’d thought of this idea sooner!
