For many Republicans, and non-political folks as well, Rand Paul offered a breath of fresh air in the 24-hour news feed of political malaise. His defense of a non-aggressive foreign policy, a limited-government approach to solving systemic issues of racism in the American judicial system and his support of a federal budget that reduced the size and scope of the inflated federal bureaucracy resonated with a younger generation that is skeptical of both parties and roll their eyes at Fox News and MSNBC talking points.
Rand’s departure leaves a significant void for these voters, one that is hard to fill with the Bombastic Trump, the Socially Awkward Cruz and the Neo-Establishment Rubio, none of which have proven their desire to make any significant changes in America’s political system, instead focusing on the boogie-man on the other side of the world, ISIS, and use fear tactics to perpetuate a nationalistic fervor throughout the country.
To those who are suddenly uninterested in the outcome of the Republican presidential primary now that Rand Paul has dropped out of the race, I offer my condolences, and I ask that you put your efforts into supporting local candidates like Elizabeth Scott for Congress in the First Congressional District against Democrat Suzan DelBene. Elizabeth has proven herself to be dynamic, influential and trustworthy in every situation she puts her mind to. From her unwavering support for the victims of Oso, to her work in House of Representatives in Olympia, to work with both sides of the aisle to get legislation passed and signed into law, Elizabeth is a fresh voice in Washington state and will make an incredible Congresswomen in Washington D.C.
So, for those frustrated with the talking points, divisive party politics and unyielding corruption of this Washington and the other Washington, I ask you to join me in supporting Elizabeth Scott for Congress.
