Thursday’s Herald carried an Opinion Page letter from a Marysville reader, headed “Follow the law, deport scofflaws.” The writer urges: “People should contemplate the number of illegal children unaccompanied by an adult who have illegally crossed our southern border in recent months.” And then adds, “It is a crisis that was caused by the Obama administration and compassionate Democrats looking for votes.”
Well, let’s contemplate all this… First, some of the “illegal children” certainly must spring from a lawful union; people marry, even in those countries. But even if they are not illegal, they shouldn’t cross our border illegally. Then, next, let’s contemplate a story published in many July editions of USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, you name it.
If the writer does not read newspapers, this same information was carried by the major networks, etc. Oh, and by the way, covered extensively by the Everett Herald. The current situation at the border is attributed to a 2008 ruling, signed into law by president George W. Bush, outlining exactly how these ”illegal” children should be handled upon arriving at or upon or across the U.S. border.
As a gentle afterthought, President Obama has deported far more illegal immigrants than any of his predecessors.
Contemplate that.
