I am somewhat taken aback by the reactions of some people to the timely demise of a non-native pest that fouls our lakes and ponds, kills native organisms and leaves toxic waste everywhere. I refer to the ubiquitous Canada geese that seem to have squatted everywhere. The real problem is the humans who feed them because they are “cute.” The people who are whining about them being gassed have a point, though. If we are going to whack these critters, then they should be done-in in such a way where they can help fill the freezers in the food banks and for anyone who wants one.
All they would have to do is, after they have been dispatched, pick one up from the regional harvest center, clean them, yank the feathers out and pop them into their freezers. It should be relatively easy, as they are accustomed to having humans in their midst. I’ve often thought one could dispatch them with a sword by sneaking up behind them and lopping off their heads.
You could get quite a few before they catch on and scatter. But being stupid creatures, they will come back to the same place where the remainder of them can be harvested until they are all in the freezers.
Now that I’ve made all of the animal lovers blind with rage and fury, think about it. This is a more practical use of the unfortunate critters.
They are going to be killed anyway, we may as well make use of them instead of just grinding their greasy carcasses to make fertilizer. I find this a more practical use for them.
