Regarding the letter, “Legal marijuana: How do results match with hype?”: The writer asks what have been the results of legalized marijuana.
It has been said that the states are the laboratories of democracy. I refer the writer to the proven results in Colorado after a full year of legal recreational marijuana in 2014:
1. Violent and drug crimes are way down.
2. Traffic fatalities are at their lowest.
3. Teenage drug crimes are down.
4. Hundreds of millions of dollars in marijuana taxes went into the state treasury.
5. Colorado’s economy is the fastest-growing economy in the nation.
6. The will of the voters has been fully implemented and “the sky has not fallen” on the state.
I also recommend the writer watch for similar results in Washington, Oregon and Alaska.
Meanwhile, Congress just ended the federal ban on medical marijuana, in a measure included in the recently approved spending bill.
Washington’s I-502 is a positive law that benefits the taxpayers and improves public safety; and, after all, it reflects the wisdom of the voters — not political hacks catering to old stereotypes.
