Sunday’s article about the “tax holiday” stimulus brought about by this year’s reduction in Social Security withholding is more than a bit misleading. (“Everyone gets a raise through tax cut.”) Just this past Friday I received a notice from the Boeing Co. regarding my retirement check, indicating it would be subject to an increase in withholding of about 17 percent! That got my attention.
A phone call advised me that among all the other good things the last Congress enacted was this increase. So, if one is working they get a 33 percent reduction in their FICA withholding and a 17 percent increase in their income tax withholding. Congress giveth and Congress taketh away.
