With all this talk about passing a budget and what cuts must be made, why is neither party talking about the most obvious expense: our wars? So far the bi-partisan Iraq war alone has cost $704 billion, according to Wikipedia. That means so far every American has paid about $2,300 for whatever benefit it has brought the taxpayers. And that price is not just per taxpayer, but per every American, adults and kids alike. Did your kids get their money’s worth? Did you? Is the war preferable to schools, medical care, parks, highways, etc.? That is the choice now being made.
And that price doesn’t include our wars in Afghanistan and Libya.
The USSR collapsed because it got itself into an arms race with the U.S. and overspent on foreign involvements, bankrupting itself. Now the U.S. is doing the same thing, bleeding itself dry on foreign adventures. It’s time to come home and spend that money on improving the lives of Americans.
