Local giving is smart — and efficient. The editorial on Wednesday’s Opinion page is right on target. As a example, for the past 10 years the Greater Everett Community Foundation has helped families and donors throughout Snohomish County learn about, evaluate, and donate to local nonprofits.
Whether it’s for human service organizations, the arts, environment or education, the foundation provides more than $500,000 in grants each year. Grants come from local families, individuals and businesses who value local giving and the expertise that the foundation provides in evaluating nonprofits. Staff at the foundation conducts site visits, reviews financial data and helps nonprofits improve their operations through training.
Local giving is smart, but it’s also a lot of fun to be able to stop by a local nonprofit agency and see your donation at work.
