Regarding the letter about Israel, “U.S. shouldn’t aid a religious state”: The writer’s first sentence, “At the risk of being wrong…,” numerous Herald readers, who have studied history, probably stated that he is indeed wrong.
Our Founding Fathers never wrote the words, “Separation of church and state.” They made it clear that they did not want a “state church” like they had left in England. That they wanted total religious freedom without government interference. If you really study America’s history, our Founding Fathers said that they expected church to be involved in politics and government.
