After reading the different articles in The Herald about “under God” being unconstitutional and Michael Newdow, an atheist, our founding fathers are probably rolling in their graves. Our nation was founded on many different aspects of individual freedom, including religious freedom. I really wonder why the words “In God We Trust” are on our nation’s currency? Is Newdow going to try to say this violates his constitutional rights because he has to handle United States currency?
Our founding fathers had a vision for this nation, including individual freedom and individual rights. I say if Mr. Newdow doesn’t like our constitutional rights and the people who believe in God, maybe he should try another country that doesn’t have religious freedom. Maybe he should look around and understand all the religions that now exist in these United States. If an individual doesn’t want to say the word “God,” they don’t have to. Is atheism a religion?
Maybe our present United States Supreme Court can learn something from what our nation’s United States Supreme Court wrote 110 years ago about “One Nation Under God”:
“Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of Mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”
