Do we want another branch of the University of Washington in our neighborhood? Do we want the same president of the University of Washington to tell us how to run a college? I say no. I want to see a four-year university in Snohomish County that is run independently of the UW.
It is time for Snohomish County to seek a higher education institution with fresh ideas, innovative means of education, with a heavy bent in the direction of the sciences, and still recognize the need for social sciences with emphasis in international relationship and global market dynamics. To compete in this high-tech world, we must also learn global rules of communication and mediation. I see the four-year college with a fresh approach to education, graduating students ready to face the entire workforce at highly technical levels and great skills as a major player in the world market.
I really cannot see another extension of UW in our neck of the woods. I believe we have the innovation, the will and the know-how to create our own four-year college complete with the needs for our communities and future student population.
