The Arlington School levy election is Feb. 19. I have supported the Arlington schools since I moved here in 1975, even though I have never had a family in Arlington schools.
When I was informed that Arlington School District started an Army Camp in the school system (JROTC), I objected. It is my opinion that the military should be no part of any school system, the same opinion as the San Francisco school system, which terminated its program. The JROTC is nothing more than a recruiting program for the U.S. Air Force.
We need to use our new high school for education, terminate the Army Camp, and use that space for instruction, so more than three kids out of 40 pass the WASL after summer classes.
Now the high school is using a portable classroom for space. Dump the Army Camp and put the students in the school we built for them. Please vote on Feb. 19. We need a new library, too.
I will be happy to support the school system again when it is used 100 percent for education.
