I see the spin is already starting concerning Initiative 912 (the gas tax repeal). The pretend governor is saying “People will be injured and die.” Balderdash! Identified and needed improvements total $50 billion. The tax raises $10 billion, does not complete one major project and does not guarantee where any of the money will be spent. We need a new Alaskan Way viaduct, a new Highway 520 bridge, new lanes on many miles of I-5, major work on U.S. 2 (not a dime from the tax goes for that). In my opinion, we also need a real north-south alternative east of I-5. That could be accomplished by widening Highway 9 from Arlington to I-405, 405 to 167, 167to south of Tacoma, with improvement of major east-west connectors already in place. Now I will give you a fail-safe financing plan – tolls! They work wonderfully all over the country. Need the construction jobs? Start all the projects now. With new technology, residents who use the toll roads regularly can opt for electronic billing. No stops at a toll booth. Only visitors would have to stop. It works everywhere, but the socialists are addicted to taxes. I anxiously await a response to prove me wrong
