Responding to Ben Rosander’s Wednesday letter (“Making a statement against Gregoire”), for goodness sake, let’s not turn the I-912 debate into Round 1 of the next governor’s race. This is our county, our region and our beloved Washington state. The stakes are too important to mire ourselves in this warmed-over rhetoric.
The tax package was not the governor’s. It came from a rather courageous Legislature. It was not the Democrats, it was bipartisan. It was not aimed at sticking it to the taxpayer, it was based on what the citizens have said is one of their No. 1 priorities – transportation. It is not just a Seattle viaduct, it is about $475 million in transportation investment for Snohomish County, $135 million of that for Highway 9.
By all means, vote for a Republican. I do it all the time. But save the vitriol for political campaigns. Politics are every two years. Washington’s future is forever.
