In these days of exhaustingly trying times, when people are at wit’s end, trying to figure out, in many cases, where the next meal is coming from, I was both amazed and touched by the outpouring of support on July 13 at Cascade High School for Project Homeless Connect (July 14 article, “Annual Everett event offers assistance to hundreds of homeless“).
I attended this with my brother, who has fallen on very hard times in recent years, and the amount of care and services that were provided to folks throughout the day-long event was simply awesome! I commend each and every organization for the services that they provided.
My brother was able to receive medical, dental and hearing services, and by the day’s end, even had glasses, which is something he’s needed for years but was unable to acquire. He received a prescription at the high school, and we were able to take it to the Lynnwood Lenscrafters, where it was filled two hours later, at no charge.
My brother is an older man, and to see the look on his face when he put those glasses on was absolutely priceless — a moment that I will never forget.
Additionally, he now has prescriptions for hearing aids and dentures, with arrangements at local facilities for low-cost installation of both.
And a haircut and lunch to boot! It truly was an amazing day, and there are so many people to thank for providing their time and their services. It really was very touching, and I plan to volunteer the next time this is done.
Again, my hat’s off to all of you for your efforts. All you provided was very much appreciated. Thank you so much!
