In his Sept. 26 letter to the editor, Mr. Flanders missed the point of the cartoon’s meaning (“American Patriotism: Voting isn’t the only way to express pride”). The people who get out and vote make it possible for the occupants of this country to wave flags and enjoy our few remaining freedoms.
The problem now is to get the voters to be an informed voter so that they realize what they are voting for and how that vote affects them and their family. It’s a good campaign slogan to shout no new taxes but in reality if we want good roads, safe parks, more police, better hospitals, better schools, and any other niceties that make America great we must pay for them, so get out and vote and get informed. Then you can wave your flags with pride.
