In response to recent letters commenting on combining the efforts of Salty Sea Days and Fourth of July parade: The Everett Jaycees, a non-profit volunteer group, has been producing the Fourth of July Parade since 1996. We (the Jaycees) agree that our community parade lacks the professional floats and bands. One problem we face is that the local schools are out during the summer. This has made it difficult for us to have any high school marching bands in the parade.
We do desire to represent the community by having a parade with a variety of entries while celebrating the nation’s birthday. We think that with more events to draw people to discover the changes that our city is undergoing is beneficial to us all here as residents and businesses.
I encourage all who would like further information about making the Fourth of July parade successful to contact me at community@everettjaycees.org or call 425-953-4043. Please visit our Web site at www.everettjaycees.org. I look forward to seeing you downtown Everett at noon on the Fourth!
