The new Camaro comes out and you have Mary Lowery test drive a car that has a 400 horsepower-plus powerplant available and you give her a V6? (June 12, Car of the Week). You blew it on this review. This is a car that is hands down a guy car and should have been reviewed by “a guy.” These are the kind of cars that, despite economic times, we don’t care about gas mileage, leg room, a sound system and cup holders. This is an off-the-line street rod coming from a car company that is on its butt and needs all the help it can get in the positive press department.
The Camaro was not designed as a company car or a soccer-mom kid hauler. The days of the performance car are not over. The new Camaro is not a 21st-century girly car to be evaluated on the basis of cute, practical and pretty. Let’s do it again and give the keys for a week to Larry Lark and have him bang out a review based on performance, handling and neck snapping fun thrills.
American car manufacturers still have the ability to turn out product that’s just plain fun without all the guilt that the media hangs on those who want to burn a bit of rubber and keep the American dream cars from becoming a memory. Let’s try it again, Herald, and this time don’t be so concerned about the leather seats.
