I want to take this time to thank all you good parents out there for raising great kids. Thank you for teaching your children good manners. Thank you for teaching them to say, “Please” and “Thank you” and “Excuse me” or “I apologize.” Thank you for teaching them proper etiquette and how to dress appropriately for the occasion. Thank you for teaching them how to behave themselves in public places (and thank you for not bringing newborn babies into movie theaters.)
Thank you for giving them hope and self-esteem. Thank you for allowing them to follow their dreams and for supporting them no matter what career choices they made. Thank you for raising kids who even want to make good career choices and who do not think the world owes them a living. Thank you for teaching them that sometimes bad things happen to good people and there is no need to cast blame on others for their mistakes. Thank you for teaching them it takes big person to apologize but a much bigger person, to forgive.
Thank you for imparting to them the “Golden Rule.” Thank you for reading to them and teaching them some basic skills before entering school. Thank you for helping them get where they need to go without doing the hard work for them. Thank you for teaching them about birth control and letting them know they never need to settle or depend on others opinions of them to feel good about themselves. Thank you to parents of boys who raise gentlemen, and thank you for raising girls who know they never need a man or to have a baby to make them feel loved or needed, worthy or whole.
Thank you for giving them the tools they will need in this difficult yet beautiful thing we call life. I know lots of people with kids but I know very few who can be called “good parents.” Thank you for not bashing, beating and crushing their spirits and their souls and for allowing them to become the amazing people they were put on this earth to become; no matter what gender, size, shape or color they came to you wrapped in.
There are many more things I want to go into detail about, so many more things I appreciate about great parents but let me just summarize by just saying …thank you!
