In announcing his campaign for the presidency of the United States, Gov. Jay Inslee attempts to elevate the nation’s attention on climate change beyond discussion and debate to the need for determined action.
He goes on to note that we are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change and may be the last that can do something about it. He recognizes that with many of the issues that face our nation, the atmosphere itself of a lively debate can diminish the impact of the problem. Not so in the case of climate change, where outcomes, so far, have been mixed.
While wind and solar power have gained a small and growing foothold, this and other actions have not stopped the upward trend of greenhouse gas production and consequent negative disruptions of climate.
As the Democratic Party considers the issues and chooses its candidate, this message of the extraordinary need to take planned, concerted action against climate change must be delivered and I thank Gov. Inslee for doing it.
