I have witnessed the gradual mind/body descent of my friend, a great humanitarian educator, who suffered the devastating disease of AIDS. I wanted to alleviate the pain I saw in her eyes, as I witnessed her slow descent into oblivion, but felt helpless because treatment for AIDS was still in its infancy.
Years have gone by and I now see a massive worldwide wave of hope battling to bring relief to millions in the form of an international fund called the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. The humanitarian forces of the Global Fund are dedicated to relieving pain and ignorance of those struggling with the affliction of AIDS. The educational outreach of the Global Fund has been great, but there continues to be a need to re-educate those in denial, ignorance and apathy so that programs can be integrated to bring caring to those still suffering their own health breakdown due to AIDS. For every life lost there are millions of families and nations that are directly affected by loss of valuable lives to AIDS. Call your member of Congress and inspire them to fully fund the Global Fund at the level that was promised.
To make the case that the public should fund continued efforts to eradicate disease is not easy, but it is easy to state that the quality of life of the world depends on it, as it has been proven that those living on earth are interdependent. If the finest quality of life on earth is to be achieved, this fact needs to be acknowledged, honored, respected and acted upon. The Global Fund is dedicated to taking care of the children and all who are afflicted with the devastating results of the insidious growth of AIDS in the lives of beautiful people throughout the world.
