As this opportunity presents itself, I would like to let everyone know about this story. It’s not sensational. It’s just a simple story about one person’s unselfish act to another person.
After a long day of work, I left my place of employment in Seattle and proceeded to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. My daughter, an avid 4-H member, was waiting for me at the cat barn. She was excited because the “Hypnotist Man” was just about to start his show in the podium next to the barn and she wanted to be a volunteer hypnotee, which she was. After enjoying the very popular show, it was time to pack up her cat and belongings for our drive home to Granite Falls.
As a matter of habit, I went into my purse to get my car keys when I noticed my wallet was gone. I frantically tried to recall what I did when I got to the fairgrounds and I realized it had to have fallen out of my purse at the hypnotist show. I immediately went to the information booth, where the lady there told me that a young man had just been to her booth with the same wallet I had described. My hope surged! She directed me to the sheriff’s trailer behind the huge ferris wheel. I went there and, sure enough, there was my wallet!
What struck me was that each person I went to – the information lady, the lady working the radio in the sheriff’s trailer, and the gentleman who had my wallet sitting in the back of the trailer, all made the same comment, more or less: “It was a really young man who brought it in.”
Everything was still in my wallet, even the money. I thanked everyone profusely, made a small prayer, got my daughter and cat, and drove home. I don’t know who this person was that turned in my wallet, and I’ll probably never know. I do want to thank him from the bottom of my heart. A very upset and scared mom was able to show her daughter that there are good people in this crazy world of terrorists, kidnappers and God knows what else.
Our very own human nature tends to emphasize the bad a lot more than the good. Young man, I hope you read this. I hope someone you know and who knows you reads this, and I hope a lot of other people read this. This person made my day, and may God bless him and the parents who raised him.
