Cheri Storm in her April 17 letter (“Gay marriage: Not all people of similar faiths agree on issue”) said that her “faith is deeply rooted in the Judeo Christian faith” and that her search of the Bible revealed that “God’s instructions for marriage are in regard to how partners treat each other rather than of who is in the partnership.”
I strongly disagree with her argument. When Ms. Storm says that her faith is “deeply rooted in the Judeo Christian faith” it would seem to imply that she follows the basic roots or tenets of the Judeo Christian faith. One important tenet being that the Bible is God’s infallible word. In the first book of the Bible we are told, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” When you look in the dictionary it defines a wife as being “a woman joined to a man in marriage.” Therefore we can see that God says that a man is to be united with a woman.
Later, in the same book, God speaks to Noah, telling him the duty of all mankind saying, “as for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.” God made it so only a man and woman can multiply and that any other combination won’t yield results. So you can see that God ordained it so that only when a man joins together with a woman, as husband and wife, is it marriage as God ordained it both in natural law and the Bible, which is the law to those whose faith is deeply rooted in the Judeo Christian religion.
I am sure that Ms. Storm would disagree with me but it doesn’t really matter what she thinks; it matters what God thinks and he clearly shows what he thinks by showing us in the Bible and natural law.
