I found your coverage Thursday regarding the protection of the Glacier Peak Wilderness, “No repairs for Suiattle,” to be very one-sided and unworthy of front page coverage, which should be neutral. You could have just as easily headlined your article “Wilderness protected for future generations.”
Access to Glacier Peak Wilderness without Suiattle River Road 26 is not impossible. Bikers and backpackers can get to trail heads from the west, or you can drive over the pass and reach them from the east side by car. The important fact is that older growth trees, important native species, damaged parts of the Suiattle River and our own Pacific Northwest salmon are now protected.
On behalf of a family of young hikers, I’d like to say a big thank you to the Pilchuck Audubon Society, the North Cascades Conservation Council and Bill Lider for their hard work in this matter. I celebrate your victory in preserving and protecting the Glacier Peak Wilderness!
