As Johnny R. Walker not altogether incorrectly asserts in his letter of Nov. 26, “the Democratic presidential candidates are all crying wolf!” Well, not quite all. There would appear to be some diversity of opinion among them depending upon who did or didn’t say what when unless they didn’t. Blah. Blah. Blah. (I’m sure you’ve all heard the joke about how a liberal firing squad stands in a circle with the members facing one another).
Most notable in Mr. Walker’s catalog of the virtues of Bushonomics is the absence of any mention of the cost of howling at the moon: how many billions of dollars and “coalition” and Iraqi lives have been spent on the delusions of Mr. Bush, et al? Does Mr. Walker recall George Herbert Walker Bush’s expression “voodoo economics”? It would appear that the senior Bush was on to something — at least until he became vice president under the Gipper. The Gipper’s loss of memory, of course, is a personal tragedy; the loss of memory of the Republican Party under the younger Bush is a national tragedy with unimaginable international consequences.
