I was surprised to read several recent letters to the editor suggesting that Snohomish County Council Republicans are working on behalf of developers at the expense of citizens.
Someone should remind these critics that despite pressure from the development community, these same council Republicans recently voted for higher school impact fees! Builders have long argued that impact fees unfairly target new homebuyers. I think they make a valid point – impact fees aren’t an ideal funding source.
But the fact remains that we’ll be building much-needed schools for our children as a result of this vote. It takes courage and independence to take hard votes on tough issues, but the council Republicans do just that.
