George Bush’s own admission that he feels God wants him to be president and his pandering of the Christian faith plays well to the masses of this country. The southern theocracy of the Bush administration falls far short of the compassionate conservatism he campaigned on in the 2000 election, and if actions speak louder than words, Bush appears more like the Bible-touting warden in the “Shawshank Redemption” than an anointed servant of the almighty.
The young ruler who asked what he had to do to enter heaven was told by Jesus to sell everything he had, give it to the poor and follow him. The Republicans are quick to jump on abortion and gay issues to show their faith, but tax the rich to help the poor and then you see how far their Christian values go. Talk is cheap. I guess that’s why you only get lip service if you’re not in the top income brackets.
