Like all thoughtful and caring people, I am stunned and outraged at the terrorist assault on New York, Washington, D.C., the American people and the appalling loss of life.
The terrorists are essentially responsible and must be held accountable for this egregious act of war and loss of life.
However, the terrorists must have read the 1994 U.S. Government report on terrorism, other relevant reports and congressional testimony, and appreciated the indifference that former President Bill Clinton, Congress and our own political representatives showed to America’s well-documented pattern of increased vulnerability to rogue states.
The appalling dereliction of duty by some politicians is an example of the magnitude of their arrogance, their unethical and self-serving interests and behaviors and violation of their oath of office. Over the years, they have allowed the readiness of America’s military capability and intelligence apparatus to be undermined, let our airport security become lax, betrayed our nation’s secrets to foreign countries, and permitted the immigration of known terrorists. The irresponsible members of Congress can be assured that they have contributed to our nation’s vulnerability and indirectly to the above tragedy. They have shirked their most fundamental duty and responsibility to the American people.
The American people must elect more responsible and accountable political representatives. More and more, responsibility and accountability appear to be alien concepts to many members of Congress. Self-serving political spin or deception has become acceptable and routine. Many deserve to be voted out, if not recalled from public office.
Changes are necessary if the American people can have confidence in the integrity, credibility and relevance of our political leadership in Congress to the security of our country.
