Every time I hear the news on the television or read it in the paper what is going on in our national, regional and local governments I wonder how much longer the voting public is going to stand by and watch all of our rights being taken away from us.
It seems that regardless of what we vote in or out of law, the lawmakers ignore the voting outcome and do as they please. Some examples are the funding of schools. Why is it that the people that we put into the position to enforce the laws regarding school funding are the ones who are ignoring our wishes? Is that how government is supposed to work in our democracy?
Thirty dollar license tabs were clearly voted into law. So why is it that not a single one of the eight registered vehicles that our family own have tab renewals under $50? How did this law change without our right to vote on it?
Now onto our local government in Marysville. We the voters made it clear that we want the using of fireworks in our city to be outlawed with the exception of those used by professionals. If is law is being enforced then why are permits being issued to sell fireworks at stands on several locations through our city? Really, makes a whole lot of sense to ban the using of fireworks but allow them to be sold.
There are many more examples to cite, but I think that you get what I am talking about when it comes to the wishes of the voters not really having a voice in law making.
If we the people do not start standing up and demanding changes then we will find more of our rights taken away from us. Use the voice that you still have and consider an out with the old and in with the new attitude when it comes to voting for local, regional, and national government positions.
If you sit idly by and let your right be taken away from you then you only have yourself to blame.
