I have a quick opinion that I would like to share with regard to our state’s representatives (especially Mr. Tax himself, Gov. Gary Locke). Whether you’re talking about the monorail, gas taxes, or whatever, I think there is a fundamental question that the people need to ask their representatives each time they come asking for more of our hard-earned money: “Is Washington state government so lean and efficiently run that it needs additional funding in order to operate?” If not, perhaps our caring politicians need to be re-focus their energy. Why is it that the government needs money? They never look at themselves to solve the problem – which theoretically should be protocol.
I cannot tell you how many times I have been appalled to see my tax dollars wasted by poor management and brainless expensive approaches to simple problems. How many of us have repeatedly witnessed five Department of Transportation workers doing one person’s job? Let’s start running our government like a company trying to survive a depression would run itself. I think that makes a lot more sense than trying to squeeze blood from a rock.
